PREREQUISITE class: Buttercream Basics or Experience Frosting Cakes
Embrace the arrival of spring with a vibrant, freshly adorned confection featuring fondant and gum paste flowers. In preparation for this session, you will frost and pipe borders on a two-layer (8” or 9”) cake at home, using colors of your preference. Bring your decorated cake to class, and step by step you will learn the fondant and gum paste skills to make roses, buds, and other floral decorations that will impress and delight your family and friends. The supply list is listed below.

Supply List to Bring to Class
- Cake: Frost and pipe borders on an 8" or 9" cake at home with buttercream icing, in the color of your choice. Bring cake to class on a cake board or plate.
- A package of gel food colors (not liquid)
- 1 24oz box or canister of ready-made fondant (white)
- 1 10oz package of ready-made gum paste (white)
- 1 cup confectionary sugar
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- A small bottle of water
- A small amount of extra buttercream icing (to stick flowers onto the cake)
- Any sprinkles or sparkling sugar you like
- An apron
- 3 small Styrofoam cups
- A package of long toothpicks
- A package of sandwich bags
- Several cleanup cloths
- A roll of paper towels
- A small package of paper napkins
- A plastic bag for trash
- A box large enough to transport your cake home
